Air
If you choose to fly to Miami, you can either fly into Miami International Airport (MIA) or Fort Lauderdale Airport - Hollywood International Airport (FLL). Miami International Airport (MIA) serves most flights into Miami. The majority of flights from Latin America also arrive here. This American Airlines hub is just 6 km outside Miami’s city centre. You can make your way into the city by either taking a Miami-Dade Transits Metrobus, Tri-Rail train or taxi. For those who wish to take the train, catch a shuttle bus to Hialeah Market Station from where you can get a Tri-Rail train into the city. Taxis leave from outside the airport terminal.
Fort Lauderdale Airport - Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is located 30 miles outside the city just off the I-95. Low fare airlines, such as Southwest Airlines and JetBlue fly into here. Tri-Rail operate train services into Miami’s city centre from here.
Train
The main train station in Miami is the Miami Amtrak Station. The Amtrak Silver Star and Silver Meteor line trains arrive into this station. Passengers traveling on these lines come from other major American cities such as New York and Washington. Train journeys from New York take about 30 hours. Trains from as far as Canada also arrive into this station. The Miami Amtrak Station is located in Hialeah with the nearby Tri-Rail/Metrorail Station offering services to other locations within Miami.
From the Miami Amtrak Station you can move around the city by taking the Metromover. This is made up of bus, monrail and train. This will get your around the Downtown area. You can take the Metrorail to get between Hialeah, Downtown Miami and Kendell/Dadeland.
Boat
Miami’s port is the busiest cruise ship passenger port in the world. The Port of Miami is also the largest ship port in the world. You can make your way from the port, which is located on the edge of Downtown Miami, by either taking a taxi or a bus. Car
Most people driving to Miami will travel south along the I-95 or I-75, towards the city. If you wish to get to Downtown Miami, just stay on the I-95. Speed limits vary in every state so if you’re traveling through various states to get to Florida, please take note.
